CAUTIOUS NEXT STEPS

If you already sent money or data, work through the next steps calmly

A webpage cannot by itself establish whether fraud occurred. It can, however, help you follow a cautious sequence that preserves evidence and avoids rushed additional payments.

01

Pause before another payment

If a new demand appears — “tax”, “unlock fee”, “verification” or “recovery fee” — take time to check it. Do not pay simply because the message creates urgency. Preserve the request and payment details.

02

Contact your bank or payment provider

Describe the transaction and ask what options apply to the payment method: dispute, block, recall or another procedure. Outcomes depend on the facts and recovery is never guaranteed, but acting early can preserve options.

03

Secure email, phone and accounts

If you shared credentials or installed remote-access software, change passwords, enable multi-factor authentication and remove unnecessary access. Never share OTP codes, seed phrases or private keys with someone promising help.

04

Save a timeline

Collect receipts, IBANs, wallet addresses, URLs, emails, phone numbers, screenshots, agreements and chats. Put them in date order. Keep originals and avoid publishing unnecessary personal or banking data.

05

Use official channels

Consult Polizia Postale and relevant authorities for guidance or reporting routes. Where an intermediary is involved, check the appropriate Banca d’Italia and CONSOB channels as well.

06

Treat “recovery” services cautiously

A guaranteed refund promise or a fresh upfront payment deserves independent verification. Ask for identity, written scope, costs and the concrete mechanism. Do not replace one loss with another pressured decision.
